Ways to Volunteer

There’s no shortage of ways you can lend a hand at Wynwood House, all of which are helpful. In the first tier of volunteering, no personal contact is involved. By contrast, there is personal interaction as part of the second tier of volunteering.

Which route you take depends on your personal preference, but any effort is very much appreciated and will help out greatly.

TIER ONE

Service options may include:

  • Weeding / pruning / landscaping / gardening
  • Event/holiday planning/food prep
  • Providing approved non-interactive entertainment
  • Pressure washing/vehicle washing
  • Organizing closets/sheds/etc.

Volunteering to help out with these essential tasks keeps our organization running smoothly, which in turn allows our residents to flourish.

TIER TWO

Tier two volunteer options require a background check, and may include:

  • Talking with residents
  • Walking with residents
  • Assisting with eating
  • Helping with arts and crafts
  • Providing approved interactive entertainment

When you volunteer in these capacities, you can provide additional companionship and social interaction to our residents, and your presence can brighten their day, promoting a sense of connection and belonging.

volunteer rules & requirements

We really value our volunteers and are committed to keeping them safe and healthy along with our residents. The following is a list of rules and requirements that each volunteer must adhere to:

  • You must sign in and check in with the head nurse each time before you start your service.
  • You may not be alone in a room with a closed door with any residents at any time.
  • You may not impose any personal beliefs on any residents without their consent.
  • You may not have had a fever, coughing, and runny nose – or any other potentially contagious illness – within the last 48 hours.
Where can you volunteer?

You can volunteer at any of our five locations!

Benefits of volunteering

Volunteering isn't just about helping seniors, it's also packed with amazing benefits for you as a volunteer, including:

  • Sense of Purpose: By dedicating their time and skills to make a difference in the lives of older adults, volunteers often report increased happiness and satisfaction in knowing they are making a positive impact.

  • Health Benefits: Research shows that volunteering can have positive effects on physical and mental health. It can improve physical fitness, reduce the risk of isolation and depression, and provide a sense of accomplishment and well-being.

  • Community Engagement: By volunteering, individuals actively engage with the community, foster connections, and build relationships with both older adults and fellow volunteers.
